Berwick Food Festival
The third annual Berwick Food Festival is back, even bigger and better from 11th – 12th September 2010. Last year’s festival attracted over 8000 visitors from around the UK and this year promises even more foodie delights for the whole family. Organised by Berwick’s Slow Food Convivium, the festival is a unique chance for visitors to find out more about this area’s thriving local food scene. Not only will the festival provide a showcase for local food producers – events will also underline the culture and heritage of food in the region. With events centred on the town’s historic Barracks – it’s designed to be an interactive experience for all concerned! Slow Food is part of the wider international Slow Movement; Berwick is one of a handful of UK towns to be granted Citta Slow status and certainly one of the most northerly! We aim to provide a good quality of life for both our residents and visitors and the Food Festival makes a major contribution to this. • Producers’ Market – over 40 stalls brimming over with local food and drink to tempt and delight • Beer Festival - discover your favourites from the huge selection of our finest regional real ales and ciders (opens lunchtime Friday 10th Sept) • Cookery demonstrations – learn from local chefs passionate about local food • Take the Taste Adventure – an exciting workshop especially designed for younger foodies • Delicious local produce – enjoy lunch in the beer tent or buy your picnic at the market to enjoy it in the shade of Berwick’s historic town walls and quayside • Animal Farm – a chance to meet some of our oldest rare breed animals first hand • Plays and displays celebrating the Food Heritage of Northumberland and the Borders throughout the weekend • Music – chill out to jazz or tap your toes to some traditional folk tunes from local musicians. This is a two day event from the 11th September - 12th September
There is a charge to attend this event of £2.00

Newbiggin Bay Sprint Triathlon
A 2 lap 750m open water swim in a shallow protected bay, followed by a flat, 3 lap 20K bike course which passes the swim and run location, making this a spectator-friendly bike course, then followed by a 2 lap 5K run along the promenade. The local community certainly know how to support their Triathlons and past experience suggests a European style crowd providing plenty of noisy support to help you make it to the finish with good humour and a smile! This is an excellent late season triathlon making the most of the warmer sea temperatures, and the projected tide on race day should ensure calm water. This is ideal for all levels, especially beginners. The organisers will be facilitating coached sessions catering for all abilities, from beginners to experienced seniors. Coaching will be provided by the regions swim coach specialist, Neil Bowers. This was a very popular series in 2009 and we have better things planned for 2010!
(There is no charge to attend this event).

Gilad Atzmon & Orient House Ensemble
Gilad’s live performances are simply breathtaking and overwhelming. The Observer says: “He creates his own cross cultural idiom.” Jazz UK finds his whirlwind approach “dynamic, charismatic and exasperating”.The mix of jazz and Middle Eastern folk music pursued by his Orient House Ensemble, linked to warmth and wit that infuses his every note, makes for a powerful combination. Meanwhile, the rhythm section – long-serving bassist Yaron Stavi, as robust as his imposing physique, together with newcomer Eddie Hick on drums – are gloriously “in the pocket” all the way, whether tackling 5/4 gypsy-infused folk or a tongue-in-cheek oom-pah-pah waltz. 10th Anniversary tour by Israeli sax player at a glance. concessions - £9.50
